From 1925 to 2025 we are celebrating a centenary of dominance with a look at CAT's AI driven future.
Yellow. It is probably the most famous color in the industrial world. You see that specific shade of yellow on a construction site and you know exactly what you are looking at. 2025 is the 100th birthday of Caterpillar Inc and that is a serious milestone. This is the company that literally shaped the earth we walk on.
But when I looked at their stand at Bauma this year they were not just patting themselves on the back or looking at old black and white photos. They were looking dead ahead at the next century.
The story used to be about big iron. Who could build the biggest loader or the heaviest dozer. That race is over. The new race is about code. It is about data.
They showed off this partnership with NVIDIA that is honestly pretty wild. We are talking about machines that are smarter than the operator. We have excavators now that know exactly where the grade is and will not let you overdig even if you try. It turns an average operator into a good one and a good one into a master.
And they are doing something else that is really smart with retrofitting. They know you cannot just go out and buy a half million dollar electric loader tomorrow. So they are figuring out ways to take your old reliable iron and upgrade it. They are adding hybrid systems to existing machines. That is a game changer for companies that have huge fleets of paid off equipment.
It proves that even a 100 year old giant can still dance when the music changes. They are not going extinct any time soon. The machine you buy today is basically a computer that moves dirt and that is a very cool place to be.
