While everyone else is fighting over who has the biggest battery Komatsu is quietly taking over the city. At Bauma 2025 in Munich they pulled the covers off three new electric mini excavators and made a very loud statement by being completely silent.
We all see what is happening to our cities. They are getting crowded and loud. You literally cannot hear yourself think on most job sites. Plus the regulations are tightening up fast. If you want to work in central London or Paris or Berlin you better bring something clean or you are not getting through the gate.
This is where the new PC20E and its brothers come in. These are not just diesel diggers with the engine ripped out and a battery stuffed in the hole. These are built from the ground up to be electric.
The silence is the killer feature here. It means you can work right next to a hospital or a school and nobody complains. It means you can start working at 5 AM before the traffic starts or keep going late into the night to finish the job. That is pure productivity that you just cannot get with a diesel engine rattling the windows of the neighbors.
And do not think for a second that electric means weak. Electric motors give you 100 percent of their torque immediately. The second you touch the joystick you have full power. It feels snappy and precise in a way that hydraulics sometimes struggle to match. Plus you never have to change the engine oil or fuel filters ever again. It is a completely different way of looking at ownership costs.
